Achieving Better Communication Online Groups

Date: 8th September 2022

Do you have a child or support a young person with Down’s syndrome? Would you like them to receive some support with their communication skills in small group settings?

Down’s Syndrome Scotland run a programme called Achieving Better Communication (ABC).  The programme delivers weekly communication support sessions online, for individuals with Ds from birth to adulthood.  The sessions are delivered by trained ABC tutors and can be accessed from home/nursery/school with the support of family or a staff member. Each session incorporates a range of stage appropriate activities to support and develop the communication skills of the individuals in the group. Children and young people are grouped with others joining online from other locations, at a similar stage/ age (max 4) to practise peer communication skills, turn taking, waiting and role play.

“We attended and ABC session with Dawn this morning, my son absolutely loved it, he was focused and engaged throughout. He really enjoyed doing the familiar sound work that he remembers from his weekly sessions and was delighted with the singing and signing.”

We currently have spaces available at various times, Monday-Friday.  For more information, please email abc@dsscotland.org.uk

Would you be interested in the programme for a child with Down’s syndrome,  aged between 0-12, but would struggle to commit to a weekly day/time for a session?

We also deliver weekly pre-recorded sessions called ABC Anytime. These are sent via a secure Vimeo link and provide great flexibility for families and schools who choose to use them.
