Health Checks and Pathway of Care

When babies are born a paediatrician carries out routine health checks. Babies then continue to have regular checks as they grow and develop. Babies born with Down’s syndrome have some additional health checks so that you can feel confident that your baby is progressing well, and they get the right support they need at the right times to support their development.

Children with Down’s syndrome have similar health issues to all children but there are some health conditions that are more common in children with Down’s syndrome and your child should receive regular screening for these each year. There are additional inserts for your babies red book that tell you more about these.
