Face-to-face ABC Events and Online Workshops for Families, Parents and Carers

Face- to – Face ABC Events

We are delighted to be able to offer more ABC face-to-face sessions in Glasgow, Dundee and Linlithgow. Face-to-face sessions take place monthly and include ABC First Steps, ABC Songs, Stories and Signs, ABC Next Steps (18+) and an All-Ages Choir 21 for a variety of age groups depending on location.

These events are open to children and adults and their parents/carers and feature lots of familiar aspects of our online sessions (e.g. songs, Makaton signs, stories, communication, and literacy activities) and provide a great opportunity for meeting other families.

Full details of all events, relevant age groups and booking information can be found on Hub 21.

These sessions will be free to families who subscribe to our Achieving Better Communication (ABC) Programme however you will still need to book a FREE space at these face-to-face sessions

Families who aren’t signed up to the ABC Programme are welcome to join these face-to-face sessions at a cost of £5.00 (per session) payable when booking your place. Please book your place on the Hub 21 and after we receive your booking our ABC team will email the payment instructions to anyone this applies to. Please note – Dundee All Ages Choir 21 sessions are only available for ABC subscriber families and should be booked by emailing abc@dsscotland.org.uk.

All ABC face-to-face sessions are in addition to weekly online ABC or ABC Anytime sessions, which will continue throughout term time.

Communication Skills Workshops

Our Communication Skills Workshops are an opportunity for parents and carers to learn about the communication and learning profile of your child with Down’s syndrome. We will talk you through lots of strategies to support your child’s communication at specific ages and stages. There will be the opportunity to ask questions as well as discuss and share experiences with other parents and carers. These are split into three age categories to allow you to select the one suited to your child’s age and stage: early years (0-5), Primary Years (5-12) and Secondary Years and beyond.

Makaton Workshops

Our Makaton topic workshops give parents, carers, and family members the opportunity to learn some new Makaton signs that they can use in everyday life. We have a selection of six topic workshops that can be booked by groups of families. These workshops are delivered on Zoom. Please contact katy@dsscotland.org.uk with any queries or to book a topic workshop.

  • Beginners Taster Session
  • Signs for the School Day
  • Feelings and Emotions
  • Keeping Fit and Sports
  • Makaton for the Weekend
  • Makaton for Adults

We run some Makaton workshops focusing on seasonal signs, songs and stories throughout the year. These are delivered both face-face and on Zoom.
