ABC Next Steps

Our ABC Main Programme leads onto our new ABC Next Steps young adult Programme.

In these sessions, young adults work in small groups (and sometimes 1-1 with a tutor, depending on individual need), focussing on communication and literacy skills such as reading and writing incorporating topical vocabulary, news or conversational skills.

There are also written tasks to be completed at home between sessions, some of these include working on basic letter formation and handwriting, while others may be concentrating on grammar, punctuation, and spelling. These home-based tasks feed into the weekly communication sessions.

“Claire has always enjoyed her sessions with you and we would like to thank you for your dedication and hard work in making the online groups such a success.” – Mum of Next Steps attendee

“We are very happy with the way things are going. It’s good having something to work towards.  She has been enjoying the worksheets that you have sent over & has helped her to engage more with the activities and is more likely to do it more often after getting stuck in a bit of a rut.  She does enjoy writing & she tries to do some letters every day. ” – Mum of Next Steps attendee

We are trialing face-to-face sessions for ABC Next Steps in Linlithgow – these sessions will be held in Febuary and March. If you would like more information about these please email abc@dsscotland.org.uk.
