Jess Parson’s Big Challenge

Date: 13th September 2019

This Saturday Jess is taking on The Ben Nevis Braveheart Triathlon in aid of Down’s Syndrome Scotland. Here she tells us about why she set herself this challenge.

“This year I turned 30 and decided to set myself a few goals. Some have already been achieved and some I’m still yet to complete. My main goal takes place this weekend. A half Ironman triathlon, covering 70.3 miles, culminating in a run up and down Ben Nevis (13.1miles) and a bike ride (56miles). My greatest fear, the cold water swim which kicks it all off (1,2miles). For the past 9 months I have been trying to squeeze in as much training as possible, not always easy with a wee one fighting for your attention but there is no more I can now do, except try and relax. Another goal this year was to raise money for a chosen charity. I chose Down’s Syndrome Scotland due to my connection with Claire and Caleb who I met through Mums on the Run. Caleb started nursery last week and it’s wonderful seeing him grow up into a cheeky chappy, but Claire and Caleb will need the support of the charity in order for Caleb to reach his full potential as he navigates his way through life. I, and Claire, would be so grateful if you could spare a few pennies to support this very worthy cause and if you would like to leave a few words of support that would be much appreciated. It’s becoming very real, and the fear is kicking in. It’s not often I feel intimidated by a challenge, but this one is certainly getting to me. Thank you in advance for you support, A very nervous, excited, slightly petrified Jess.”
