In March we heard from 17-year-old Matilda, who had just released her debut single ‘Invisible’ to celebrate Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week. Her Mum Katy gives us an update on how it went and what Matilda has been doing since then.

“Matilda loved writing her song lyrics which she did one afternoon on the banks of Lago Selva in Italy. Then lockdown provided her with the perfect opportunity to record it with her older sister Amelia and have her younger sister, Flora make a video.

She loves singing and acting so this was the perfect chance for Matilda to create something meaningful throughout this strange time!

She performed like a professional during radio and newspaper interviews and her video has received over 2,000 views on YouTube! She has also written a beautiful song about another favourite holiday destination, Port de Sóller in Majorca…. she has her fingers crossed she will be able to return there in summer 2022 for her 6th year clubbing holiday with her sisters!

Matilda is really excited to be back at her face-to-face activities, she has found Zoom increasingly challenging and is so happy to be back dancing with Ydance and at gymnastics. However, what she loves most all is that Comebacks, her local drama group with her friends, is back meeting again weekly.
Matilda only managed one term at Comebacks before lockdown hit, she was able to perform three nights in Sister Act just before all performances were shut in March 2020.

She has also transitioned to her local mainstream high school for her 6th year and loves that she can walk there and then go on to drama at the end of the school day, independently with her own pals from school.”
