Psychology study on perceptions of Down's syndrome in children
Participants needed for study
This study is being carried out by PhD student Karen Deakin and her supervisor Professor Andrew Jahoda in the Academic Unit of Mental Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow.
Participants are needed to take part in a study researching how young people with Down's syndrome understand and think about themselves.
Who can take part?
- Young people with Down's syndrome aged 9-16 years
- One of the young person's parents or carers
What will the study involve?
Young people will do fun picture matching activities with the researcher, taking around 30 minutes. Some example pictures are below.

Parents and carers will be invited to take part in an interview with the researcher, lasting around 50 minutes.
The young person’s session can take place at their school or at home.
The parent interview can take place wherever is most convenient; this may be at the family home or over the telephone.
The child can take part (when parental permission is given), even if the parent would prefer not to take part in the parent interview.
