The Big Plan

Big Plan logo

The Big Plan brings together a group of people and their families to plan for a good life. People can invite whomever they would like to help them with this and to be on their Big Plan Team. This could be parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents or friends. They can invite people whom they know from their local community to join in. They can ask any professionals whom they think might be able to help - but they don't have to. Each person picks their team.

Over a number of meetings (usually 5-6) each person works on a person-centred plan for their life. Each session involves lots of activities and ideas and the mood is relaxed and very informal. Each person have opportunities to share their insights and ideas with the whole group.

At the end of the Big Plan, everyone will end up with a plan, which includes action steps to take and a group of people around them to help and support them to take those steps.

The Big Plan is built around a very big, very important question:

  • What would it take for this man or woman to have an interesting, fulfilling life where he or she could get to know people who would become his or her friends and were able to make his or her contribution to the local community?
