Down's Syndrome Sports in association with Coatbridge Karate Club bring you a shotokan karate club for children and teens with Down's syndrome.

What is shotokan karate?

Shotokan karate has been practiced since 1372 when it was first practiced in Japan. The Karate Club will practice the first two stages of shotokan karate:

  • Basics: punching, blocking, kicking
  • Kata: movement and patterns

What are the benefits?

With the support provided at the Karate Club, your child will gain self belief, confidence and respect for oneself and others. She will acquire a good level of fitness, balance and co-ordination and will also have fun and meet new friends as she progresses from red belt with the aim of reaching black belt.

What is the aim of the club?

The Karate Club hopes to instill the basic skills of shotokan karate in its students so that they can go on to join mainstream clubs in their local areas with the knowledge and confidence gained during the Karate Club.

Who can join?

Boys and girls aged 8 and above are welcome!

When does it start?

The new club will begin sessions starting Tuesday 21 June from 6 - 7 p.m. in the Charlotte Toal Centre, Dundyvan Road, Coatbridge ML5 1DB.

Is there a fee?

Each session is £4. There is no contract - you only pay when you train!
