An echocardiogram (ultrasound heart scan) will check for any malformations of the heart as babies with Down’s syndrome have a higher risk of heart conditions. Although this may be quite daunting for you, it is non-traumatic for your baby and will ensure that any problems are identified and treated as, and when, necessary.
A blood test using the Guthrie heel prick, will be taken to check for thyroid deficiency.
At 6 weeks of age, the Paediatrician will again examine your baby to monitor growth, vision and hearing.
