Your Baby

This section of the web site provides information to parents of babies with Down's syndrome.

If you have recently been told that your baby has Down's syndrome you will be experiencing a wide range of emotions. Parents react in different ways to the news that their baby has Down's syndrome. Some parents bond instantly with their baby. Other parents feel shock, anger, denial and dismay with a huge dose of guilt on top. It is also natural to feel a sense of loss for the baby that you expected to have. Over time these feelings will subside as you watch your baby begin to grow and develop his or her own personality. Try to enjoy these baby days, they go by very quickly. Many of our parents tell us that they were so wrapped up in thinking about what might happen in the in the future that they didn't really savour the early months of their baby's life. Whilst it is natural to worry about the years ahead it is also important to relish the time with your new baby.
