Children

Many children with Down's syndrome will attend the same mainstream school as their brother or sister.

There are a range of differentiated materials which can help schools to deliver the curriculum in a way that meets the recognised learning profile of children with Down's syndrome. For many children their mainstream education is a success. Scotland has a policy of inclusive education. school boy

For some children and parents however, attendance at a special educational needs school will be their preferred option. The choice should be available which best meets the needs of the individual child.

Children also enjoy taking part in a wide range of social clubs and leisure activities, such as Brownies, swimming clubs, dance groups and football teams. This is great for their all round development and also allows them to gain a degree of independence.
