Our View

One in every thousand babies born in Scotland has Down’s syndrome. This number has not changed significantly in recent years despite screening and testing being freely available. It is extremely important that expectant parents are given a balanced view about Down’s syndrome and are allowed time to think carefully about the options available to them.

Every person with Down’s syndrome is a unique individual, full of potential. It is impossible to predict beforehand, or at birth, what that baby’s strengths and areas of difficulty will be. What we do know is that people with Down’s syndrome can lead enjoyable, fulfilling lives as independently as possible.
